Darryl Dre Merrill, II, known to all as Dre, passed away on July 21, 2026, leaving a legacy of laughter and deep affection that will be treasured by everyone who knew him. Born on September 11, 1996, Dre grew up in Laurel, MS, and made an indelible mark on his family, friends, and the community.
A proud graduate of Northeast Jones High School, class of 2015, Dre was always the life of any gathering. Renowned for his quick wit and infectious humor, he had a remarkable gift for bringing joy to those around him. Whether he was telling jokes, sporting one of his favorite t-shirts, or dressing up for a special occasion, Dre’s vivacious spirit shone through. Those close to him will always recall the way he could lighten even the heaviest of hearts with a clever remark or a genuine smile.
Dre’s devotion to his family was boundless, but it was most evident in the love he had for his beloved daughter, affectionately called Kota Bug. The special bond they shared was a source of immense pride and happiness for him. Dre cherished every moment spent with his family, embracing each day as an opportunity to create memories together.
Among his many passions were his appreciation for unique jewelry and his interest in firearms. These hobbies reflected Dre’s distinct personality—a blend of style, strength, and individuality that set him apart. His flair for personal expression was matched only by his unwavering loyalty to those he cared about.
Dre’s memory will be honored at a memorial service on August 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 143 Central Ave, Laurel, MS 39440. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather and pay tribute to his remarkable life. Following the service, a repast will be held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the L.t. Ellis Center, 610 Munson St, Laurel, MS 39440.
Though Dre’s time with us was far too short, the joy and love he brought into the world will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
