With heavy hearts and deep respect, we announce the passing of Jerry King, who departed this life on July 7, 2026, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Born on November 1, 1953, in the great state of Mississippi, Jerry’s life was one marked by kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
From an early age, Jerry’s character was shaped by his close-knit community and faith. He joined New Hope Baptist Church as a young man, where he began to form the values and bonds that would last a lifetime. A dedicated student, Jerry attended South Jones High School, laying the foundation for the hardworking, reliable man he would become.
Jerry’s industrious spirit led him to meaningful work in both the oil fields and in construction as a carpenter. His colleagues and friends remember him as someone who brought not just skill, but also warmth and humor to every job site. Jerry possessed a unique blend of technical know-how and an ever-present sense of joy, which endeared him to those around him.
Known for his joyous personality, Jerry lived life fully, embracing the simple pleasures with genuine enthusiasm. He found peace casting a line on the water, delight in tending his garden, and purpose cooking up a hearty meal for those he loved. His culinary skills became legendary among family and friends, with his homemade meals providing nourishment for both body and soul. Jerry’s knack for repairing cars made him the go-to man in times of mechanical need, and his ability to invent clever nicknames or deliver a well-timed joke never failed to lighten the mood in any room.
The legacy of Jerry King is woven into the lives of all who knew and loved him. Though much of his heart belonged to his family, he also counted among his blessings a wide circle of cherished friends. Those gone before him include his beloved parents, John and Maxine King; his wife, Gloria King; his daughter, Adrian Leggett; and his siblings, Larry King, Lillie Webb, and Gregory King.
Left to treasure Jerry’s memory are his devoted partner, Nancy McCullum; his loving son, Christopher Samson, Sr. (and wife, Crystal); his bonus son, Dallas Drummond; his caring stepchildren, Catherine Harris, Jessie Harris, and Robert Clark; and his faithful siblings, Gloria Thigpen, Johnny King, Wydesra King, Donald Ray King, Lee King (and wife, Adrianne), Janet King, Joyce King, and Loraine Davenport. His sister-in-law, Cynthia King; his grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also remain to honor and celebrate the lasting impact Jerry made on their lives.
Services honoring Jerry’s life will be held at New Hope Baptist Church, 299 Currie Road, Ellisville, MS 39437. Visitation will take place on July 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, immediately followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellisville, Mississippi, where Jerry will be laid to rest in the community that meant so much to him.
